As of Feb. 1, 2010, the USCG will be enforcing compliance pertaining to multi-passenger vessels as follows:

  • 46 CFR 176.105 –“Condition of the vessel and its equipment must be acceptable to the cognizant OCMI as a prerequisite to the Certificate of Inspection renewal”
  • 46 CFR 176.404(b) – “you must submit your written application for renewal of a Certificate of Inspection to the OCMI at least 30 days prior to the expiration date of the COI.”
  • 46 CFR 176.500(b) (1) – “Annual Inspection. Your vessel must undergo an annual inspection within the 3 month period before or after each anniversary date.”
  • 46 CFR 176.600(c)(1) – “A vessel that is exposed to salt water more than three months in any 12 month period since the last examination must undergo a dry-dock examination and an internal structural examination at least once every two years.”
